The lens is designed for "Canon, Nikon or Sony small-sensor cameras."
That means cameras with APS-C sized sensors.

Chance to Win Tamron Lens
Digital Photography School is hosting a contest with three Tamron lenses as prizes.
You can win a Tamron 16-300mm Di II VC PZD Macro (value $629) or one of two Tamron SP 70-300mm Di VC USD lenses (value $449 each).
All you have to do is leave a comment on the contest page stating how you would use the lens before midnight on Dec. 23. That leaves you plenty of time to read up on the lenses and compose your answer.
I wish I was in position to use one of the lenses, but I don't ave a camera body to use with any of the lenses (and no money to purchase one.) That means I'm not going to be competing with anyone that enters the contest, so good luck to all that do so.

Witches of East End Contest Entries
I mentioned the DeviantArt Witches of East End contest the other day, thought I'd provide an update on my entries. I wound up with three entries, all variations of the same theme and inspired by Poe's short story The Black Cat.
The first was designed to look like a vintage book illustration:
The second was done using watercolor pencil, and the third is a digitally manipulated version of the watercolor after scanning.
I personally like the sgraffito effect produced by manipulating the image.

It's clear from viewing the entries that some people didn't bother to read the contest rules.

Witches of East End Art Contest
DeviantArt is hosting an art contest where the grand prize consists of getting your artwork featured in an episode of the Witches of East End. (And a $1,500 monetary prize.)
The art must be based on one of three stories by Edgar Allen Poe: The Black Cat, The Raven or The Tell-Tale Heart. The contest is open for submissions through July 27. (That's less than three days at his point. Work fast if you don't already have a work that fits the theme.)
Works can be any medium.
Submissions must be at least 2000 pixels wide/high and be in either .jpg or .png format.

There is a category for single images, one for a short series (two to five images) and one for short videos (up to 180 seconds in length.)
Entries that don't match the theme are accepted in the "open" categories. (Single image, short series and short video categories here as well.)
The major rule: No Film.

Images can be altered.
Grand Prize is a 1,000,000 yen.

Update on DeviantArt Project
Earlier this week I commented on a DeviantArt project I had in the works. It was an entry for a DeviantArt contest.
I thought I'd write a quick update as it happens to be a slow news day. (I had a total of 15 stories in my photography news feed this morning. I usually have three times that.)
Here's the character I created for the contest using Inkscape:
I like how it turned out. The problem was in trying to get the animation done. I was a little too ambitious when it came to the animation. The problem wasn't getting the animation done, it was getting it done while meeting the file size limit.
The limit was 200KB and the best I could do was 280KB.
The bad news: I missed an opportunity to win a contest with prize money.
The good news: I got an excuse to play with Inkscape and a character that I can use for other purposes. (Inkscape and Animation tutorials come to mine.) So it's not a total loss.

Site Update: June 2, 2014
The photography news front has been fairly quiet recently. Today has been no exception. There really wasn't anything in my news feeds that I wanted to post on toady.
That makes it a good day to work on the blog itself. I recently added a page that provides links to various stores. I'll be adding to that today as I go through my links.
I also dabble in art. I normally don't have that much time to paint, draw or work on digital artwork. The current slow news cycle has given me more time to do so.
I always intended to include art related articles, and the slow photography news cycle will give me a chance to post those.
I am planning a project that involves creating digital artwork using images of found objects.
My current project involves a contest on DeviantArt: the WeChat Emoticon Sticker Challenge. I have a day and a half to finish an animated gif. I'll post it to my DeviantArt Page when finished.

National Geographic Traveller Acepting Entries Through June 15

Somehow I missed this when it was first announced.
National Geographic Traveler is accepting entries for it's 2014 photo contest until June 30. (Link to rules.)
The Grand Prize is a National Geographic Expedition to Alaska for 2.
2nd Prize is a photo workshop for one in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
3rd is a 6 day cruise for 2 on a windjammer schooner.

The Royal Horticultural Society is now accepting entries for its 2014 photography contest. The contest is open to photographers outside the United Kingdom and you do not need to be a member of the society in order to enter.
There is an entry fee of £5 per entry (£6 for non-members). The fee is waved for the contest's under-eighteen category.
The contest has five categories: Plants, Abstract and Details, Celebrating Gardens, Seasons, and Wildlife.
The winner in each category receives an award of £500, with a £2000 award for the contest.
The prize for the under eighteen entries consists of a £500 gift card at Wex Photographic. (Don't forget to factor in shipping costs if entering from overseas.) There are two categories here: under 11 and 11-17.
The contest is open until November, providing ample opportunity to take photographs for the contest.
