Flickr recently added a service allowing people to order their images as wall art.
They have now extended their wall art service to allow purchasing wall art uploaded by other users. The catalog covers Creative Commons images as well as selected collections from licensed artists. The catalog currently covers over 50 million images.
The Creative Commons images include offerings from museums and various government entities, including NASA. (Some of the NASA photos are spectacular.)

London Museum to Exhibit 170-year Old Photograph

The Museum of London Docklands will exhibit a salt print taken by Fox Talbot as part of its "Bridge" exhibit. The print is dated to around 1845.
That makes the print roughly 170 years old.
The image is extremely fragile and the museum has taken unusual measures to protect it from exposure to unnecessary light while being exhibited. (Museum patrons need to press a button to illuminate the image)
The exhibit runs June 27 to November 2.
As a side note, copies of the salt print can be purchased from the Museum of London's print store.

Photographing Tonight's Lunar Eclipse
For those of you thinking about shooting tonight's lunar eclipse, I suggest you check out Imaging Resource's Moon Photo 101 article and the Moon Photography blog post by photographer Ryan Zimmerma.
The eclipse itself last from 1:00 to 6:00 am (Eastern Time). The full eclipse occurs roughly 3:00am.
The Zimmerman post suggest how you can prepare in advance using an OpenSource software program, Stellarium. The Imaging Resource article gives some additional tips on using the software.
Of course, neither can help much if the weather fails to cooperate.
The forecast for my area calls for clear skies.
And freezing temperatures.
P.S. DP Review has some tips for shooting the eclipse as well.

Fantastic Take on Sunset Photography

I just had to share this after coming across the article at DIY Photography on Bing Wright's Broken Mirror/Evening Sky project.
The series combines projections of sunset photographs with photographs of broken mirrors. (The sunset photograph is projected on a wall or screen. The projected image is reflected in the broken mirror. A photo is then taken of the broken mirror.)
The end result is a spectacular image that is reminiscent of stained glass.
The images were shown at the Paula Cooper Gallery in NY last winter.

Spectacular Photos: Somethimes I's a Matter of Luck
Sometimes spectacular nature photos require being in the right place at the right time. There may be no way of knowing when that will be in advance. You just have to be lucky.
That happened with visitors to the Grand Canyon on on the last day of November this year. An inversion layer caused a thick layer of fog to cover the entire canyon. Inversion layers occur in the canyon a couple of times each year, but one effecting the entire canyon are much rarer. These occur roughly once a decade.
The inversion layer made for some spectacular fog images.
