Printable USB Business Card Kickstarter Project

Hat Tip: PetaPixel

The inventors of intelliPaper have a new Kickstarter project: the swivelCard.

This is a business card that contains a small silicon chip containing digital information.  The card folds up so that the information stored on that chip can be read over a computer's USB connection.

It's not quite a paper USB drive as the data stored on the card cannot be changed by the computer.  (The data can be changed using a device from the company, making it more like a flashable ROM device.)

The card offers some interesting opportunities for photographers.

The cards provide enough storage space for a small portfolio of images.  This makes them well suited for promotional purposes.  (They're also fairly inexpensive.  The rate is $1-$2 a piece on the Kickstarter project.)

Each card also has a unique serial number.  This code can be used to provide each card user access to a different web page.  This could provide useful for photographers that have a large number of clients.  The photographer could have a page for each client and use the card to control access.  The cards do eventually wear out, but issuing a replacement wouldn't cost much.

Also, multiple cards could be associated with a single page.  This might be useful for wedding photographers.  They could provide the couple with multiple cards, each linking to the couple's online album.

Those are just the most obvious uses for the card.
